Our School

Davis Community Church Nursery School (DCCNS) is a nonprofit program open to all children between the ages of 15 months and five years who are ready for a group experience. As a parent cooperative, DCCNS benefits greatly from strong parent participation in both the classroom and in program development.

DCCNS is part of the overall educational and outreach effort of Davis Community Church (DCC). DCC remains very committed to our school and supports DCCNS in all kinds of tangible ways. Since DCC provides DCCNS with administrative support, custodial services, building and grounds support, and rent-free classrooms and meeting space, all tuition and fundraising revenue is spent directly on classroom costs (staff salaries and classroom materials and equipment).

DCCNS is open to families of all faiths and backgrounds. While the DCCNS curriculum is guided loosely by a Christian philosophy, no Christian doctrine is taught at DCCNS. Central to the mission of DCCNS is the creation of an environment in which families from all backgrounds and traditions feel comfortable, welcome and respected.

Our Philosophy

We believe that play is a child's work. Through social interaction and play activities, we teach children life skills so they can form healthy relationships, be independent, solve problems and conflicts, learn self-discipline, and show respect for others.

Our main goals are to:

  • nurture children and encourage them to discover, experience and master new skills
  • foster age appropriate social skills
  • build self- esteem and self- confidence

Since parents are the most important people in a young child's world, every effort is made to provide a positive learning experience for both child and adult.

Parent Commitments

Parental involvement is an important part of our school and is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child's growth. As a participating parent you are required to:

  • Participate in the Classroom on a regular basis
    (varies with program)
  • Attend September Orientation and Parent Meetings
(All parents attend the September Orientation meeting. Parents are expected to attend at least six meetings throughout the year. The meetings are typically held monthly in the evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Parent meetings are an important part of our program. These meetings involve parents in the business of our school, present information on effective parenting and child development, and provide an opportunity to get to know other parents.)
  • Complete a Family Task.
(To aid our school program, each family selects a Family Task for the school year. A list of tasks is sent out with the registration information. Some examples are grocery shopper, toy cleaner and class photographer.)
  • Attend Work Parties
(each family is expected to participate in one Saturday morning work party during the school year for cleaning and maintenance of our school. In addition, all families are expected to help at the September and June work parties in preparation for the beginning and ending of the school year.)
